We have been on our feet here at 33. In the last 36 hours we have ran 4 Qrs calls and 5 Fire calls
1 Lift Assist, MVA In millcreek, Smoke in the building at Del Star in the Boro, A Tree Fire Endangering a house in Schaefferstown, and a brush fire assisting Berks Co 18 and 26.
Eng 33 was alerted to berks county to the 900 block of W Penn Ave to assist with a brush fire. Engine 33 went with 5 Driver- Mark Brubaker, OIC-Kerry Sites along with Nikki Lynch, Dakota Widmer, and Chris Dubble. Chief Marks was in Womelsdorf and met the Engine on scene. The Engine was directed to proceed east thru Robisonia with Engine and Attack 34 to look for fire along the tracks. The 34 crews found a small fire and Engine 33 continued it's search. Chief 33 in his POV spied a large header of smoke east of AWI and went to investigate where he fould a working brush fire along old west penn ave. that was near 1/2 mile in length and no fire apparatus in site. A quick call from the Chief brought Engine 33 into the sceen and into a fully committed fire attack. Crews were on their own for about 30 to 45 minutes until additional units arrivied from other parts of Berks county as all the local units were committed to their own brush fires. Additional help included Utility 33 driven by D/O Randy Simmon with the rest of our brush gear. Over 20 departments responded to this incident that was 2 to 3 miles long.. In all Engine 33 and Utility 33 had over 1500 feet of various types of fire hose off to fight the fire.
A special thanks goes out to our brothers at Sta 14 Durlach Mt. Airy Fire Dept for a standby with their engine. They ran a tree down in millcreek while on standby.
